Jump into Programming

You’ve probably heard the phrase “Dive right in.” We embraced that philosophy to start a set of workshops we called “Jump into Javascript.” It is important to give back to the community and through teaching, we are able to help others learn while also fine tuning our skills.

We composed our three class curriculum focused on Javascript and Ruby on Rails and sent it out to the community to start collecting sign ups. Within twenty minutes, we had sold out the class and had a wait list started! We knew we were onto something and were excited by the chance to help an eager group of students.

Throughout the classes, we taught these students such topics as the jQuery and jQueryUI libraries as well as integration with AJAX requests. We built our own calculator from scratch and launched a Twitter search tool using their API. We focused these classes on practical real-life examples that the students could take back to their jobs and coding projects. It is important, especially in the coding world, to stay up to date on the latest technologies to keep pace with the ever-changing landscape.

These classes tested the skills of our students and created a foundation to help them to explore and dive deeper into Javascript. It is great to see students pick up on new concepts, but It’s even better to see them do it and have fun. We certainly had a blast and cannot wait to offer the next set of workshops.
